During my dinner last week at Acabàr, located in an iconic, storied building on Sunset Boulevard, I was wowed by the décor. The Meschin brothers — owners of The Little Door and Little Next Door — along with Roland Emmerich, Jerry Murray and Sue Choi did an amazing job restoring the former Moroccan restaurant Dar Maghreb that had been there for 42 years.

We have a few things that can help.
 
Listen to my latest interview on chef Jamie Gwen’s radio show, which is now syndicated throughout America, where we discussed (listen to show here):
– chef Michel Richard’s new restaurant in New York, Villard at The New York Palace;
chef Jeff Mahin’s new additions to the Chicago scene, Summer House Santa Monica and Stella Barra Pizzeria;
Michael Mina’s PUB 1842 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, and Sam Marvin’s Echo & Rig Butcher and Steakhouse in Las Vegas;
– then we went to Paris to talk about the major renovation going on at the Dorchester Collection’s Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and chef Eric Frechon‘s new gourmet bistro Lazare;
– we finished the journey in Los Angeles at Hakkasan, the new Chinese restaurant in Beverly Hills, and chef Steven Fretz’s The Church Key in West Hollywood, which is already so popular, it’s hard to get a table.

The holiday season is here. Yesterday, I celebrated it by spending part of the afternoon in the kitchen of Montage Beverly Hills with executive chef Gabriel Ask. Watch my exclusive video above to see what Ask recommends cooking during these cold winter afternoons. It’s sure to please the whole family.

I also got to taste his delicious Stollen cake, a German Christmas tradition. You can find it at the hotel during afternoon tea or in the boutique.

She has been a server at the restaurant for four years and has been in the cast of the show both seasons it has aired. So she certainly knows things about Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Tom Sandoval and Kristen Doute’s dramas.

Thanksgiving is a tradition that started in 1621. As it is “a day off of work on the fourth Thursday of the month of November,” it is not easy to find restaurants that are open.

At Sacramento’s most-talked-about restaurant, The Kitchen, executive chef John Griffiths and chef-owner Randall Selland celebrated the seasonal and the local by adding walnuts to the menu — at the exact same time as walnuts were being harvested in orchards throughout neighboring San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Yolo counties.


“There’s no better time to cook than fall,” Griffiths announced, going on to praise the region’s fruits, vegetables, meats, fish — and nuts, whose rich earthiness he said was intrinsic to autumnal cuisine.

This is not the first time that the endless creativity of chef José Andrés compelled me to my computer to write a piece after sitting at the table of one of his restaurants.


This time, it is about the second annual Truffle Season Dinner Series at SAAM, the chef’s private tasting room in The Bazaar at SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills. This series presents a great challenge as the key ingredient is what Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin called “the diamonds of the kitchen“. Using truffles reduces dramatically Andrés’ range of action and forces him to express himself in one direction.

Recently, a gourmet friend of mine asked me to recommend a restaurant in Marina del Rey, which is on the water just outside of Los Angeles and where surprisingly there are not too many good options. Since I dine at so many restaurants, I rarely steer friends to places I haven’t been to myself. But having enjoyed Ricardo Zarate‘s cooking at Picca as well as Mo-Chica, I suggested she try his new restaurant Paiche even though I had yet to visit.

When the Four Seasons Hotels take it to the streets, they take it in the form of a food truck! The Four Seasons Hotels Food Truck is an idea developed during a corporate meeting that was two years in the making. The truck is currently touring cities in the western United States which are home to Four Seasons Hotels, starting in Palo Alto and ending in Santa Fe.
