Want to know the hottest restaurants around? For the first time ever, we have published a list of the Hot 40 Restaurants in the U.S. as part of GAYOT.com’s Annual Restaurant Issue. Some of them are old classics, while others opened recently, but you can be sure that they are very busy, and that it can be difficult to get a table.

Bravo TV series Vanderpump Rules started airing in January with a happy cast. It stars the wait staff and bartenders at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, who work under the firm hand of restaurant partner Lisa Vanderpump, one of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”.

By the end Season One almost everybody is crying or has cried, except Vanderpump. As the finale is airing tonight, I think business partner Nathalie Zapata and general manager Peter Madrigal will have lots on their hands to keep the boys and girls working together as a team until Season Two starts.

And since SUR Restaurant & Lounge is one of GAYOT.com’s Top 10 Sexy Restaurants in Los Angeles, maybe the atmosphere will foster a surprise.

by Sophie Gayot

From Montage Beverly Hills Luxurious Private Residences, 90210

Last night I got together with our special reporter inside Wolfgang Puck’s kitchen, where the master-chef was preparing the feast for the 1,500 guests who on Sunday will be attending the world’s ultimate after-party: the Oscars
® Governors Ball.

As that connection I mentioned was Alison Crary, the red winemaker of Sterling Vineyards, she first told me about the wines that will be poured to the A++ crowd. Watch the exclusive video above to hear about the selections and how Crary paired them with the food and desserts.

Château Miraval in Provence

by Barnaby Hughes

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have had their year(s) in Provence. After leasing Château Miraval from then-owner Tom Bove for three years, the star couple made their stay permanent by purchasing the 1,000 acre Provençal estate outright in 2011. In 2012, Brangelina teamed up with the Perrin family, owners of Château de Beaucastel in the famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and makers of dozens of Rhône wines. In March 2013, Jolie and Pitt plan to launch the first Château Miraval Rosé to bear the names Jolie-Pitt and Perrin on the label. It’s produced from grapes grown on the estate’s certified organic vineyards.

SUR Restaurant & Lounge Peter Madrigal with Sophie Gayot

by Sophie Gayot

It looks like Peter Madrigal, the general manager at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, is going to have to do lots of hand holding after last week’s episode of “Vanderpump Rules,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Lisa Vanderpump’s new TV show. Stassi, a server, invited some of the waiting staff to go to Las Vegas to help celebrate her birthday. But the trip to Sin City turned into a big fiasco after an incident at the Moroccan Marrakech restaurant.

As SUR Restaurant & Lounge has just been named one of GAYOT.com’s 2013 Top 10 Places to Kiss in the U.S., we believe that Madrigal will have even more work to do. SUR Restaurant & Lounge is FULLY booked for Valentine’s Day. But I hear that they might extend the special “love” menu to the next evening. I’ll keep you posted.

Ben Affleck at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

by Barnaby Hughes

The 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which takes place tonight at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA, will have Nicolas Feuillatte as its exclusive Champagne sponsor for the second year in a row. Broadcast live on the CW television network at 8 p.m., the annual awards ceremony will present the best films of 2012. The CCMA awards, hosted this year by KTLA-TV’s Sam Rubin, is thought to be an important influence on other award shows.

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte should “bring an air of glamour and elegance [to the awards ceremony], and help elevate our function to a whole new level,” acknowledged Joe Berlin, President of the Broadcast Film Critics’ Association and founder of the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. The Champagne will be served during the ceremony as well as on the red carpet and at the after-party.

  • pinitbutton The Real SUR Restaurant of Lisa Vanderpump Todd

by Sophie Gayot

Vanderpump Rules, the new television show that debuts on Bravo tonight, features Lisa Vanderpump Todd from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills“, and is set in her business, SUR Restaurant. The reality show focuses on the drama that goes on between the bartenders and the servers, six friends who have real moments. It is a real-life soap opera taking place in a restaurant where Lisa makes the rules.

Watch the video above for a sneak peak of the restaurant. In my exclusive interview with her partner Guillermo Zapata (yes, he does look like George Clooney), I bring you a more harmonious story about the décor and the food. The décor — created by Vanderpump herself — is why we named this restaurant to GAYOT.com’s list of Top 10 Sexy Restaurants in Los Angeles. The lounge, which is actually as large as the restaurant, is on GAYOT.com’s Top 10 Lounges in Los Angeles. You should make a reservation before you head there, as the restaurant is already one of GAYOT.com’s Hot 10 Restaurants in Los Angeles before the show even airs!

As guests walked in André Balazs’ hotel The Standard Downtown LA for the opening party of SPiN Standard, they were welcomed with mini bottles of Chandon Brut Classic and Chandon Rosé.

At the top of the escalator near the entrance to this new “ping pong social club,” a floor-to-ceiling picture of President Barack Obama playing ping pong (in a tie, no less) put everybody in the mood for a bit of sport. Many celebrities, including Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, socialized at the bar, which was serving more Chandon (in flutes this time) and a custom cocktail — the Spin-tini made with Chandon, lychee purée, lemon juice, honey, ginger and Belvedere vodka.

  • pinitbutton Another Day at the 2012 COLCOA Edition

by Sophie Gayot

Yesterday, six movies were shown at COLCOA (City of Lights City of Angels), the French Film Festival in Los Angeles. I chose to watch “Les Adieux à la Reine” (Farewell My Queen) by director Benoit Jacquot. I am not sure it was the best choice…

Farewell My Queen takes place in Versailles over four days, starting with the decisive date of July 14, 1789. Through the eyes of Sidonie Laborde (Léa Seydoux), we follow queen Marie-Antoinette (Diane Kruger) during the beginning of what will become the French Revolution. Sidonie, who is the queen’s reader, walks us through the magnificent Hall of Mirrors of the castle of Versailles, through the dirty private hallways and shows us the intrigue between Marie-Antoinette and the infamous aristocrat Gabrielle de Polignac (Virgine Ledoyen).

by Sophie Gayot

The opening night of the 2012 edition of City of Lights City of Angels, the 16th time this French Film Festival has been held in Los Angeles, was explosive! While we enjoyed Nicolas Feuillate Champagne, the attendees were treated to an exceptional performance by Belgian actor Jérémie Rénier in the movie “My Way”, a biography of the singer/songwriter Claude François directed by Florent-Emilio Siri. Every French citizen is familiar with François, who is known by the nickname “Cloclo” (which is the French name of the film). For those who are not familiar with him, Frank Sinatra’s song My Way, written by Paul Anka, was based on François’ song Comme d’Habitude.
