Tennis Uncorked

by Sophie Gayot

While I am in Paris enjoying escargots, fresh baguette, Camembert, and the glittering Eiffel Tower, I am also following the 2010 Roland Garros tennis tournament on the television channel France Televisions. Hopefully, I will have time to go see the players compete at the stadium, between my visits to Parisian restaurants.

If you are in the U.S., you can do the same by tuning your television to the Tennis Channel or TV5 Monde. In New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Washngton, D.C. and Chicago, we have selected a few French restaurants, bistros, brasseries and cafés that will bring true French tastes to your palate. Enjoy the games and the food!

Making Pasta at Culina

 by Sophie Gayot

I just published my review of Culina Modern Italian restaurant, which recently opened at the Four Seasons at Beverly Hills with an impressive décor. Now listen carefully to what Chef Victor Casanova says during my exclusive interview, and you will learn the secret of his tasty spaghetti that I just enjoyed.

The noise you hear in the background of the video is not a faulty microphone, but what the chef has to endure when he makes pasta twice a day for Culina’s satisfied diners. I also tried many more items on his menu, and particularly appreciated his wheat crust margherita pizza (see photos below).

 by Sophie Gayot

The Gayots celebrated the opening night of the 2010 City of Lights, City of Angels (COL•COA) Film Festival last night at the DGATheater on Sunset Boulevard. The 14-year-old COLCOA is the second entirely-French-language film festival in the world.

Due to the volcanic activity in Iceland, some key figures could not make it, but French Consul General David Martinon welcomed the packed house watching the North American premiere of Heartbreaker(L’Arnacoeur), a romantic comedy starring Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp’s life partner) and Romain Duris, and directed by Pascal Chaumeil.

Gayot Visits Hell’s Kitchen for the Finale of Season 6

By Jeff Hoyt

Our own Alain Gayot appeared as a judge on the season finale of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX-TV on Tuesday October 13, and showed that his taste matched that of chef and host Gordon Ramsay. In the first showdown between the final two competitors, filmed outside of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in downtown Los Angeles, Alain preferred Dave Levey’s rack of venison with sour cream and chive parsnip purée over Kevin Cottle’s petite clambake with poached lobster and clam pudding. Despite fracturing his wrist during the production, Dave went on to win this sixth season of competition, and the position of head chef at Araxi Restaurant in Whistler, British Columbia.
