Tasting Notes: Founded in 1973, Chamisal Vineyards was the first estate planted in California’s Edna Valley — a region on the south side of San Luis Obispo known primarily for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today, Chamisal is part of the Crimson Wine Group, which also includes Pine Ridge and Seghesio Family Vineyards, among others. While many wine consumers are now familiar with unoaked Chardonnays fermented in stainless steel tanks, Chamisal winemaker Fintan du Fresne is applying the concept to Pinot Noir. The 2013 Stainless Pinot Noir features earthy red cherry, raspberry and damson plum flavors with just a hint of sweet spice. On the palate, it reveals a vivacious acidity, supple tannins and a clean finish.
