Chef David Myers closed the doors of Sona restaurant in 2010. Since it had been a GAYOT Top 40 Restaurant in 2007, we expected him to resurface somewhere else in the City of the Angels with another fine dining concept.
In the meantime, he opened Pizzeria Ortica in Costa Mesa, one of GAYOT’s 2013 Top 10 Orange County (CA) Pizza Restaurants. With the success of Comme Ça in West Hollywood, he got himself a prime location on the Las Vegas Strip for a second Comme Ça. The restaurant at The Cosmopolitan, complete with a terrace and views of the Eiffel Tower, earned him a spot on GAYOT’s 2011 list of the Top 10 New Restaurants in the U.S. Let us not forget his ventures in Tokyo: David Myers Café and SOLA.
Various and different rumors kept Angelenos waiting. After three years, the answer is called Hinoki & the Bird, in what we can say is an almost secret location in the heart of Century City. But that is part of the charm of the restaurant. Once you are in, there is no way to know that you are in the middle of an area of town that reputedly houses the offices of sharky Los Angeles lawyers, agents and business people. Discover the restaurant, which can get a tad too noisy, with my exclusive video interview of David Myers above. When reading the review, you will also find out that Myers took a casual approach to the food, influenced by his love and many trips to Japan.
