The holidays are stressful enough without kitchen duty. In between last minute holiday shopping, hosting guests and crazy weather, the solution to your Christmas feast is only a phone call away. For those spending the holidays in New York City, there’s still plenty of time to make reservations at a top-notch restaurant that will help your Christmas dinner go off without a hitch.
Make this Christmas a memorable one amidst the storied glamour of The Oak Room at The Plaza Hotel. Open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the famed New York institution is serving up a special $100 four-course prix-fixe menu. Entrées include the Christmas turkey and the miso-glazed Virginia ham, but of course no meal at The Oak Room would be complete without their foie gras PB & J. Save room for dessert because you wouldn’t want to miss their signature chocolate-praline Oak Bar.
For those who want to shake things up a bit, enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet at Esperanto on Christmas Eve for only $9.99. The cuisine skips across South America, mostly focusing on Brazilian dishes such as feijoada (black bean and meat stew), pao de queijo, and fried yucca. Top off your celebration with a wide selection of Latin American cocktails.
Mario Batali will make this Christmas a holiday to remember at Del Posto, where you can witness the height of Italian gastronomy with a seven-course Christmas Eve dinner. For $150 per person, enjoy smoked eel frittelle, baccala crostata with olive, mozzarella in carozza, tuna testa tramezzini, scallops in pancetta, mackerel and white bean crostini, and calamari and artichoke ragu. Add wine pairings to each course for an additional $150.
Step into the ultramodern Bar Basque and win points with the kids. Dine amidst the space-age decor (brainchild of Tron set designer Syd Mead) on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for $75 per person. Chef Yuhi Fujinaga has lined up the 5-course prix-fixe menu with family-style dishes of roasted Berkshire pork chop with piked apple purée and braised red cabbage, octopus terrine, and chicken- and foie gras-infused consomme. Finish off with a decadent frozen gingerbread spiced mousse.
With so many restaurants to choose from, take a break this Christmas and let someone else take care of the cooking.
