Claiborne & Churchill 2013 Dry Gewürztraminer

Price: $20 Rating: 14/20 Region: Central Coast, California Varietals: 100 percent Gewürztraminer Production: 1,126 cases Alcohol: 13.5 percent Tasting Notes: Claiborne (Clay) Thompson and Fredericka Churchill founded their eponymous winery in 1983 with a focus on Alsatian-style wines, including Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. The couple had previously been University of Michigan academics, Thompson teaching Old Norse and Churchill teaching German. In 1981, they gave it all up and moved to California’s Central Coast. Claiborne & Churchill’s flagship wine, the 2013 Dry Gewürztraminer was sourced from two vineyards in the Arroyo Seco AVA. It displays fragrant floral aromas on the nose and luscious tropical fruit flavors in the mouth. Although made in a dry style, the wine exhibits a touch of sweetness balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Food Pairings: Spicy Asian dishes, Jambalaya, paella, weisswurst For more information, visit our Claiborne & Churchill winery profile Other Gewürztraminer wines we have tasted Related Content: Wine and Food Pairing Wine of the Week Reviews New Releases
