Playing off the region’s rich mustard heritage, the people of Dijon have brought a two-year tour with art, music, food, and drink to the U.S. Starting with a one-week visit to New York, Dijon Must’ Art’s introductory events included a showing of the Mourners at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by a reception at the Cultural Services, French Embassy where eight of the finest chefs from Michelin-starred Dijon restaurants (Le Pré aux Clercs, Derbord Restaurant, Chapeau Rouge, Sofitel Les Jardins de la Cloche, and Chez Guy) dazzled guests who toasted their talents with the area’s Burgundy wines, Crème de Cassis, and Framboise. Francois Rebsamen, Senator and Mayor of Dijon, presided.
The events continue with Tuesday’s procession of 100 musicians — symbolizing the coming of the Mourners – up Fifth Avenue to the plaza of the Met, playing medieval Dijon music and Broadway show tunes. On Wednesday, March 3, a free, full-day food, art and music event will be set up in Grand Central Terminal where thousands of NYC commuters will watch cooking demonstrations, sample savory and sweet dishes, enjoy wines, listen to live musical performances and DJ-spun tunes, and meet with artist Yan Pei Ming who has created a new work in honor of this event. The Mourners, which will tour the US for the first time, are the acclaimed medieval tomb sculptures from the Court of Burgundy.
