Sri Lanka’s only vertically integrated tea company, Dilmah owns some of the best Ceylon tea estates. Instead of blending teas from various regions, this family-owned company is committed to producing single-origin tea using traditional methods. All of their teas are made using the “orthodox” style – a production process that begins with handpicking the leaves and ends with oxidization and firing. If you’re in the mood to treat yourself, opt for their Teamaker’s Private Reserve, a diverse collection of rare gourmet teas. We recommend the Rilhena Estate Ceylon Souchong, a single-estate tea grown in the Ratnapure region. After being fermented, the dark brown tea leaves are smoked over cinnamon wood for three days. A connoisseur’s delight, it has a strong, multi-dimensional smokiness and a hint of spicy sweetness. Need another reason to buy Dilmah? Through their MJF Charitable Foundation, they donate a minimum of 10% of all global revenue toward helping the underprivileged in Sri Lanka.
