The Incider is one of many great cocktails available for only $5 during happy hour at Epic Roasthouse
by Tiffany Maleshefski
Since it first opened its doors on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, Epic Roasthouse has hosted one of the city’s BEST happy hours. For three and a half generous hours, the restaurant’s upstairs lounge, Quiver Bar, slings $5 cocktails, $5 wines by the glass, and $3 beers. And did we mention the unobstructed views of the San Francisco Bay and the sweet selection of snacks for $3? It’s awesome and usually draws a wide range of people, many of whom consider the full-service restaurant below to be way out of their price range.
Well, that coveted happy hour just got even better.
For starters, there’s a revamped cocktail menu. All-star bartender Camber Lay, who was responsible for getting Epic’s popular happy hour off the ground, parted ways with Epic late last year. Now, the collective bar staff is pitching in to keep the cocktail menu lively and updated.
Favorites include the Incider: a twist on an Old Fashioned that mixes bourbon, house-made apple cider and lemon bitters, garnished with a cinnamon stick.
Also notorious is the Eva Peron: Fernet Branca, Domaine de Canton, Carpano Antica, lime and ginger beer.
And bringing the heat is the Agave Niño: tequila, Domaine de Canton, agave syrup, lemon, and Albariño (a type of Spanish or Portuguese white wine), garnished with a fresh slice of jalapeño.
Epic’s happy hour is as famous for its savings-conscious snack selection as it is for its budget-friendly booze.
New snacks include fried potato curls (ok, they’re essentially shaved French fries), fried risotto balls, crab cakes and pizza. Another cool addition is a new sharing menu that allows guests to order those budget-priced appetizers in larger quantities, so rather than ordering 2 risotto balls for $3, you can order six for $10 (although yes, we realize the math on this isn’t all that great). The math does work when it comes to the crab cakes. A single cake is priced at $3, while four are $11. It’s not like the savings here are huge, but it is pretty convenient to have the choice to order in bulk or not. Pizzas are $15, but are only served between 3 and 6 p.m.
