How to Buy the Best SUV
by Alain Gayot
They are the evil but oh-so-loved cars, not just in America where they have deep roots, but now worldwide. And, if you don’t have one as part of your line-up, you can’t be considered a complete auto manufacturer. These often gas-guzzling beasts are not new, they are simply all the rage nowadays.
Back in the 30s, Chevrolet had the Suburban; in the 60s, Jeep had the Wagoneer, and AMC had the Eagle, which is more along the lines of today’s crossover vehicles. Across the pond, Land Rover came out with the Range Rover, a more luxurious option. Where would Volvo and Porsche be today if they had not produced the XC90 and Cayenne respectively? Even Maserati will be producing the Kugang. By the way have you heard of the Spyker D8 Peking-to-Paris model that will reach 170mph? The list is endless. And to the delight of environmentalists, Hummers are gone. Hate them or love them, SUVs are here to stay. There are even hybrid options for those who want to drive an SUV but still act environmentally-conscious. So if you are in the market for one, why don’t you start with this list of Top 10 SUVs.
