After meeting chef Jamie Gwen at Craft Los Angeles, where chef de cuisine Anthony Zappola was introducing his new small plates for the summer, Jamie and I decided to share our summer outdoor dining discoveries on her weekly radio show on KFWB News Talk 980.
If you missed it, you can hear it on GAYOT.com, and it’s worth a listen. Because even though summer ends officially next month, outdoor dining can be enjoyed year-round in sunny Southern California. Our summer wasn’t very hot, but Angelinos may need to cool off come October if Indian Summer hits. So you’ll still be able to eat outside at many of these places, and they’re enjoyable year-round.
We also discussed some new, upscale restaurants at Las Vegas’s CityCenter, and some cheaper ways to eat in Sin City.
After talking to chef Jamie at Craft Los Angeles, I headed into the kitchen with my video camera. You can watch my exclusive video interviews with chef Anthony Zappola and pastry chef Shannon Swindle on our YouTube channel.
That channel also features other highlights of our choices for outdoor dining, including my interviews with chefs Rory Hermann of Bouchon Beverly Hills and Victor Casanova of Culina Modern Italian. If you haven’t made it out to the remodeled Gladstone’s yet, you can see the new décor as well as a waitress wrapping leftovers in their signature tin foil animals.
