Little Japanese in Little Tokyo

It took me a while to get to Lazy Ox Canteen, the bistro owned by Michael Cardenas. Sorry, Michael! He has had a long successful culinary history with his partners in Los Angeles, with Katana (try to get a table on a Saturday night), three Sushi Roku and two Boa Steakhouse locations. (Have you seen the patio at the latest Boa on Sunset?)
Cardenas, whose mother is Japanese, opened the Lazy Ox Canteen in downtown’s Little Tokyo, which sports many Japanese restaurants. But don’t be fooled; there is little Japanese fare to be found here. Chef Joseph Centeno, with whom I did my first radio show on KNX AM 1070, is at the helm of the kitchen. Read my review, so you can find out what to expect. Keep up with the LA dining scene with Los Angeles Restaurant Reviews, News, Culinary Events and Wine Dinners.
