Dear Zac, I have been looking for a recipe for 30-35 years, there was a Surmas Bakery in Harvey,Il. called this pastry French Fruit Bars—a pastry crust with a cake type on top that had pecans and marschino cherries and topped with a maple flavored buttercream icing. When the bakery became a carry-out business the name was changed to Maple Nut Bars–The cake part of pastry reminded me of banana cake in color, although it had no banana taste, would you have any suggestions as to how to make this, the problem I’m having is with the cake part I can make the pastry crust and the icing, This was a family run business and before closing I was promised recipe, but was told the baker took all recipes, please help if you can.
