Yesterday, I found a great way to finish my weekend. I drove along the Pacific on Route 1, also called Pacific Coast Highway or PCH by the locals, heading to Beau Rivage restaurant in Malibu, California. You are saying, “Another restaurant?” Yes, but not quite. I was going for a night of “Magic & Wine.”
The actual order of the evening was a wine tasting with two white and two red wines from the Rosenthal Malibu winery, paired with bites from the restaurant in a room overlooking the ocean at sunset. Then came time to go the wine cellar to see a performance by magician David Minkin. I spent 90 minutes there that I will not forget anytime soon. Minkin, a winner of many awards, blew the minds of everyone in the audience. The room is very intimate, seating only 30; he has his sleeves rolled up; he does not have an assistant; there are no Hollywoodish effects; so, the show is all him, his hands and mind. And they work magic! Watch my exclusive video interview with Minkin to get a hint of his skills. And, yes, I got him to do a trick on camera.
For information about the upcoming dates of the evening, which is priced at $85, go to David Minkin’s website. Make sure to reserve ahead, as the room is small.
