Pernod Ricard Launches Quirky Spirits

Bacon, bacon everywhere: in your ice cream, chocolate and your Brussels sprouts; restaurants just can’t seem to stay away from that part of the pork. But what’s a bacon-lover trying to live the vegetarian lifestyle to do? Try Mama Walker’s new Maple Bacon liqueur, brought to you by the Pernod Ricard group. Far from the exotic Pernod and Ricard spirits with roots in France, the multinational decided to create three liqueurs with American comfort breakfast foods in mind. Like the Blueberry Pancake and Glazed Donut versions, Maple Bacon is totally vegan.
Where is the French toast or All-Bran-flavored liqueur for health-conscious folks? Yoghurt, no way.
The 70-proof liqueurs can be sipped straight or on the rocks. They are flavorful, affordable at $12.99, and guaranteed to be a topic of conversation at a party. They would certainly make a great centerpiece for a lively, adult brunch. Like them or not, you have to agree that they are quite fun. We found them sweet and comforting, indeed, with Blueberry Pancake being our personal favorite.
Kitschy TV hosts Alie & Georgia, known for their creative cocktail concoctions, have been recruited to talk up the breakfast-inspired liqueurs by Pernod Ricard. Many recipes have been crafted, but here is a summary of the ambassador duo’s favorites.
Blueberry Pancake Spritzer
1 oz. Mama Walker’s Blueberry Pancake liqueur
3 oz. Chardonnay wine
1 oz. spritzer
Stir and serve in a highball glass
Garnish with mint and blueberries on a pick
Maple Bacon Negroni: Baconogroni
3/4 oz. Mama Walker’s Maple Bacon liqueur
1/4 oz. Campari
1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
Serve stirred over rocks
Garnish with orange peel
Boston Cream Pie Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Mama Walker’s Glazed Donut liqueur
1/2 oz. chocolate liqueur
1 1/2 oz. heavy cream
2-3 drops of vanilla extract
Shake over ice
Strain into Up glass
Top with powdered cocoa
