Pope Francis to Visit Jerusalem’s Historical Sites Pope Francis is scheduled to make a pilgrimage to Israel from May 24 to 26. The papal visit will be the Pope’s first-ever to Israel, and will mark the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s historic trip to Jerusalem. The Pope first announced the trip during his Sunday address on January 5 to a crowd of thousands, stating that he was announcing it, “in the climate of joy that is typical of the Christmas season.”

A longtime advocate for peace between Israel and Palestine, Pope Francis was invited to the Middle East by both Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. He will also travel to Jordan and Bethlehem as part of his pilgrimage. Pope Francis’ trip will likely draw large interest from Latin America, as he is a native of Argentina and the former archbishop of Buenos Aires. Jerusalem Club Press has partnered with media advocacy group Fuente Latina to provide full documentation of the visit in Spanish, as well as give journalists access to Spanish-speaking officials.
