A few years ago, General Motors hired rapper T.I. to promote their line of cars, but they dropped the deal when the Grammy-award-winner pled guilty to felony charges after trying to buy guns and silencers from an informant. If you think his days of big endorsements are over, think again. After serving nearly six months in prison and a stint in a halfway house on federal weapons charges, he has been named Global Creative Consultant to Rémy Martin Cognac.
I guess it’s a case of cognac houses keeping up with the neighbors, as Conjure Cognac was developed by Ludacris, Courvoisier has been promoted by Busta Rhymes and P. Diddy, and Snoop Dogg signed a deal with Landy. Busta charted with his “Pass the Courvoisier,” while the Doggfather released a Christmas mixtape called “Landy & Eggnog.” Whatever happened to rappers drinking “Gin and Juice?” During his recent visit to Cognac, I wonder if T.I. tried to find rhymes for “Martin?” Will he start referring to himself as the “Black Pearl?”
It’s enough to drive a man to drink, so check out our selections of the world’s Top 10 Cognacs.
