Tasting Notes: Winegrowers Clay and Margarita Shannon began working with Lake County fruit in the 1980s. Impressed with the results, they founded a winery in 1995 and planted nearly 500 acres to a mix of red and white grapes. Shannon Ridge’s vineyards are certified sustainable and employ 1,000 sheep to help maintain their vines. Sourced from the winery’s original “Terre Vermielle” Vineyard, the 2011 Barbera is a fruit-forward and approachable wine. Displaying bright blueberry, plum, and cherry flavors with a touch of peach, it reveals a nice balance of mouthwatering acidity and supple tannins.
