Tasting Notes: Soléna Estate founders Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu both come from winemaking families. Whereas Laurent’s roots are in Bordeaux, Danielle’s are in Napa and Oregon. Her family founded Pine Ridge Vineyards in 1978 and later sent her to Oregon to start Archery Summit in 1996. Laurent and Danielle married in 2000 and founded Soléna Estate in the Willamette Valley. They also named their daughter Soléna, which is a combination of words signifying the sun and moon. Their 2011 Pinot Noir Domaine Danielle Laurent is the winery’s only estate Pinot Noir. Unfiltered and unfined, it displays fragrant aromas of black cherry, violet and anise. In the mouth, the wine reveals refined raspberry and blackberry flavors with pronounced earthy notes and supple tannins.
