James Bond 007 comes face-to-face with a shadowy terrorist organization known as SPECTRE in the 24th installment of the James Bond series. Daniel Craig reprises his role as the suave secret agent who speeds through the  streets of Rome in his ultra-exclusive Aston Martin DB10, while Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz plays his nemesis as a mysterious figure who rules the SPECTRE crime syndicate.  The SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) name is not new to the James Bond franchise. The organization with the octopus logo first appeared in Dr. No and then again throughout the franchise’s history; think Ernst Stavo Blofeld and a white Persian cat. Would-be world dominators unite to create a more powerful organization and even penetrate the established MI6 to shut the 00 program and rebrand itself CNS. The ultra high-tech organization led by C (Andrew Scott) has eyes over everyone, anywhere, anytime. But in the end, the human bond between ‘old’ MI6 operatives M (Ralph Fiennes), Q (Ben Whishaw), and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) is what enables 007 to accomplish his mission.  When Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) enters the picture, James Bond falls in love all over again … and is ready to live happily ever after (or is he?). We can be sure to see more of the scarred Waltz character in future installments.   All the ingredients for the perfect Bond flick recipe are in: improbable car chases, helicopters, train fights, a snow scene and gadgets, but Bond appears more human than ever. Product placement is huge as expected.  A beautiful scene in the streets of Mexico City on the Day of the Dead celebration opens the film but quickly come CGI-made explosions and monochromatic color-induced scenes. Soundtrack is louder than ever and Sam Smith is the voice behind the Spectre theme song, “Writing’s On the Wall,” making him the first British male solo artist to sing the Bond theme in 50 years. The film does have its longueurs and lacks some dimension.   Naturally, it wouldn’t be a Bond film without a bottle (or two) of Bollinger, the official Champagne of the James Bond franchise. After being featured in the last 14 James Bond films, Champagne Bollinger is adding to the legacy with the release of the Spectre Limited Edition ($229), which contains a 2009 vintage Bollinger cuvée and designer chill box. Jaguar takes a lead role with sister company Land Rover and there’s even an appearance by Ian Callum’s  C-X75 Jaguar concept car. Other featured brands include Omega, Persol, Vuarnet and, of course, Sony, who’s contract with the franchise has now expired.     The Sam Mendes-directed spy thriller comes to U. S. theaters November 6. Learn more at the “Spectre” official website Related Content: Skyfall Movie Review Top 10 James Bond Movies Action Movie Reviews More Movie Reviews on GAYOT.com
