Who better to tell us about the Champagne that will be served this Sunday at the Oscars® than the President of la Maison de champagne? Cécile Bonnefond took me on a bubbly tour and presented the wines that will uplift the atmosphere of the 87th Academy Awards® to be held at the Dolby Theatre® in Hollywood. The Vatican in Rome has a new Pope, while Culina Modern Italian, the restaurant at the Four Seasons at Beverly Hills, has a new chef: Mette Williams. I have been following her career as she worked her way through the kitchens of Wolfgang Puck‘s Spago Beverly Hills and CUT as well as Lexington Social House and One Pico.

Bring on the Bubbly!

My sabraging of a bottle of sparkling wine last night was even more fun than usual, as the person whose name was on the bottle was next to me. It was chef Michael Mina, GAYOT’s 2011 Restaurateur of the Year, in person at his restaurant Stonehill Tavern at The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Orange County, CA. I had the honor of kicking off the evening’s festivities by opening a bottle of Iron Horse 2004 Cuvée Michael Mina.
