During my dinner last week at Acabàr, located in an iconic, storied building on Sunset Boulevard, I was wowed by the décor. The Meschin brothers — owners of The Little Door and Little Next Door — along with Roland Emmerich, Jerry Murray and Sue Choi did an amazing job restoring the former Moroccan restaurant Dar Maghreb that had been there for 42 years.

As 2013 has ended, aren’t you looking forward to know where to dine in 2014?

We have a few things that can help.

Listen to my latest interview on chef Jamie Gwen’s radio show, which is now syndicated throughout America, where we discussed (listen to show here):
- chef Michel Richard’s new restaurant in New York, Villard at The New York Palace;
- chef Jeff Mahin’s new additions to the Chicago scene, Summer House Santa Monica and Stella Barra Pizzeria;
- Michael Mina’s PUB 1842 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, and Sam Marvin’s Echo & Rig Butcher and Steakhouse in Las Vegas;
- then we went to Paris to talk about the major renovation going on at the Dorchester Collection’s Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and chef Eric Frechon‘s new gourmet bistro Lazare;
- we finished the journey in Los Angeles at Hakkasan, the new Chinese restaurant in Beverly Hills, and chef Steven Fretz’s The Church Key in West Hollywood, which is already so popular, it’s hard to get a table.

  • pinitbutton Lisa Vanderpump Rules: Trying To Get Some Secret Stories

by Sophie Gayot

Last night, as I dined at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, I tried to grill Katie Maloney, one of the cast members of Bravo’s hit TV show Vanderpump Rules. She has been a server at the restaurant for four years and has been in the cast of the show both seasons it has aired. So she certainly knows things about Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Tom Sandoval and Kristen Doute’s dramas.

Watch my exclusive video interview with her to listen to what she has to say. Then tune in Monday night for the next episode.

Bravo TV series Vanderpump Rules started airing in January with a happy cast. It stars the wait staff and bartenders at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, who work under the firm hand of restaurant partner Lisa Vanderpump, one of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”.

By the end Season One almost everybody is crying or has cried, except Vanderpump. As the finale is airing tonight, I think business partner Nathalie Zapata and general manager Peter Madrigal will have lots on their hands to keep the boys and girls working together as a team until Season Two starts.

And since SUR Restaurant & Lounge is one of GAYOT.com’s Top 10 Sexy Restaurants in Los Angeles, maybe the atmosphere will foster a surprise.

SUR Restaurant & Lounge Peter Madrigal with Sophie Gayot

by Sophie Gayot

It looks like Peter Madrigal, the general manager at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, is going to have to do lots of hand holding after last week’s episode of “Vanderpump Rules,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Lisa Vanderpump’s new TV show. Stassi, a server, invited some of the waiting staff to go to Las Vegas to help celebrate her birthday. But the trip to Sin City turned into a big fiasco after an incident at the Moroccan Marrakech restaurant.

As SUR Restaurant & Lounge has just been named one of GAYOT.com’s 2013 Top 10 Places to Kiss in the U.S., we believe that Madrigal will have even more work to do. SUR Restaurant & Lounge is FULLY booked for Valentine’s Day. But I hear that they might extend the special “love” menu to the next evening. I’ll keep you posted.

  • pinitbutton The Real SUR Restaurant of Lisa Vanderpump Todd

by Sophie Gayot

Vanderpump Rules, the new television show that debuts on Bravo tonight, features Lisa Vanderpump Todd from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills“, and is set in her business, SUR Restaurant. The reality show focuses on the drama that goes on between the bartenders and the servers, six friends who have real moments. It is a real-life soap opera taking place in a restaurant where Lisa makes the rules.

Watch the video above for a sneak peak of the restaurant. In my exclusive interview with her partner Guillermo Zapata (yes, he does look like George Clooney), I bring you a more harmonious story about the décor and the food. The décor — created by Vanderpump herself — is why we named this restaurant to GAYOT.com’s list of Top 10 Sexy Restaurants in Los Angeles. The lounge, which is actually as large as the restaurant, is on GAYOT.com’s Top 10 Lounges in Los Angeles. You should make a reservation before you head there, as the restaurant is already one of GAYOT.com’s Hot 10 Restaurants in Los Angeles before the show even airs!

West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land cutting the ribbon with the Petrossians, the Martinons and Sophie Gayot

By Sophie Gayot

After months and months of remodeling, the West Hollywood Petrossian Paris Boutique & Café finally reopened last night. Armen Petrossian and his son Alexandre made the trip from Paris to unveil a totally new space, where the boutique and the café each now have their own dedicated space.

The mayor of West Hollywood, Abbe Land, held the scissors for the red ribbon ceremony, also attended by the French Consul General David Martinon, and his wife Karen. Petrossian farm-raised American caviar, paired with Champagne, disappeared as soon as it came out of the kitchen.

Petrossian Paris was established by Armenian brothers Melkoum and Mouchegh Petrossian. The two were the first to introduce caviar to Paris, then to the rest of the world after fleeing Russia for the City of Lights in the early 1920’s. Today, Petrossian Paris offers an array of packaged goods including their signature smoked salmon, a variety of smoked seafood, fine chocolates, mustards, olive oils, specialty vinegars and fruit preserves along with the comprehensive collection of Petrossian caviar. You can find Petrossian boutiques, restaurants and cafés in Paris, Monaco, New York, Las Vegas and West Hollywood.
