Tasting Notes: “One Family, One Estate, One Passion” is the Trefethen family credo, and their winery has kept this attitude going for over four decades. Eugene and Catherine Trefethen began growing grapes in Napa Valley, California in the late 1960’s. Their son John produced the winery’s first commercial batch in 1973, and less than a decade later their 1976 Chardonnay won “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the Gault Millau World Wine Olympics in Paris. Today, the vineyard continues to be operated by the family, and they have begun using sustainable practices, including solar energy to power the entire vineyard’s operations. Their 2013 Dry Riesling is another shining example from these longtime vintners. The wine has a rich floral bouquet with notes of lime and orange blossom, while the palate boasts of ripe citrus fruits. This Riesling is well-balanced, with an energetic acidity and minerality on the finish, making it a vibrant wine that is perfect for sunny days filled with the joyous laughs of friends and family.
