What makes chocolate from República del Cacaoº so special lies not only in the final product, but also in the process taken to harvest and cultivate the sweet treat. The cacao plants are found and processed in the Ecuadorian regions of Manabí, Los Ríos and El Oro. The chocolate from each region is of single origin, meaning it's not blended with cacao from any other area. We tried the Los Ríos strain and found it full of flavor. Once you’ve taken the first bite, the rich taste gently coats the mouth, but is far from overbearing. The bitterness from the cacao is balanced by sweet and flowery undertones evident in both taste and smell.
República del Cacaoº offers a range of packaging that includes single origin bars, an assortment of single origin mini bites and a single origin bakery bar. Gifts are also available. We like the single origin sensory kit that comes in a bamboo box and the single origin wine pairing chocolate bags.
Purchased by Valrhona in 2012, Republica del Cacao's chocolate is not currently available in the U.S. We recommend stocking up on their bars on your next trip to South America, where they have several shops.
