In and Around South London

As mythical South London resident Bridget Jones would probably attest, there is more to London than the West End. Home to the London Eye, the Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall, the Imperial War Museum and Shakespeare's Globe, South London is chock full of celebrated attractions, but its lesser known culinary treasures are worth a trip in their own right.

For some of the city's best gourmet shopping, head south of the river and under the railways to Borough Market. Sandwiched between London Bridge station and Southwark Cathedral, it has been a thriving wholesale venue for at least a thousand years. Now this specialty market has opened to the public.
Connoisseurs can sample delicacies from chorizos to mulberries, to Japanese teas, flowering zucchinis, sundried tomatoes and sun dried hams. You’ll find entire stalls devoted to anything from olives to nuts, to organic wines or organic beers.

For fine dining, try Le Pont de la Tour whose elegant dining room overlooks the Thames and Tower Bridge. Its theme is Anglo-French, with the best from both sides of the Channel like Dover sole and beef with béarnaise. The Oxo Tower Restaurant Bar & Brasserie, on the eighth floor of the tower, couples one of London's best views with excellent modern cuisine. To keep it casual, try the Globe Café, or choose from an amazing array of teas and coffees from around the world at The Bramah Museum of Tea & Coffee.
