Monthly wine tasting evenings, which give you the chance to try rare vintages and grape varieties along with tapas, are running at Cellar Gascon, the wine bar at the top of restaurant Club Gascon. Evenings cost £20 and start at 7 p.m. Wines are matched to small tasting dishes. Club Gascon, 57 West Smithfield, London EC1, 020-7796 0600.

Tuesdays
Instead of wine, make it a whisky tasting. Albannach has a 200-strong list, and offers regular whisky tastings. Get the lowdown on how whiskies are made, and how each individual flavor and characteristic sets it apart from its rivals at their three master classes, each focusing on a different flight of malts. Classes start at flight one, an introduction at £30 per person; flight two explores various regions and different wood finishes (£35 per person); flight three takes you to the smokey, strong tastes of Islay (£40 per person). They're held on the first three Tuesdays of the month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.albannach.co.uk. Albannach, 66 Trafalgar Sq., London WC2, 020-7930 0066.

Tuesdays
Christie's Wine Course, created by Michael Broadbent and Steven Spurrier, covers classic varietals, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon-Semillion, Cabernet-Merlot, Rhone Valley and Mediterranean grape varieties, and sparking and dessert wines. Courses are offered throughout the year, with each course running for five weeks and meeting each Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. For more information and to register, visit www.christies.com/education.
