Go green this year at the nation's largest Earth Day celebration, the Green Apple Music & Arts Festival, held April 20-22. Presented by Earth Day New York, the three-day festival will feature hundreds of live music performances in dozens of venues around the city, including the famous Carnegie Hall, The Blue Note jazz club, Irving Plaza and the Knitting Factory. Participating sponsors and venues have promised to "go green" for the festival, incorporating eco-friendly practices such as using biodegradable materials within the venue, encouraging recycling among patrons and buying organic food whenever possible.
Participating artists come from all genres and include Umphreys McGee, the New York Philharmonic, Travis Sullivan's Bjorkestra, Bill Frisell, Infected Mushroom, Béla Fleck & the Flecktones and more. Other events include an Earth Fair at Grand Central Terminal to educate the public on greening practices, as well as free outdoor concerts in Central Park.
