Radical Lace & Subversive Knitting

"Craft Kills" by Freddie Robins

Your grandmother has probably never done this type of knitting. This exhibition at the Museum of Arts & Design showcases work by international artists who use fiber in unusual ways. From microknit garments (1:144 scale) to massive installations, these creations are made up of traditional yarns, laces, found objects or other mixed media. Artists experiment with form and technique, creating everything from mini mittens to three-dimensional free-form sculptures, and explore contemporary issues of globalization, sexuality and identity.

When: Jan. 25-June 17, 2007, open daily 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Where: Museum of Arts & Design, 40 West 53rd St., New York.

Admission: $9 for adults, $7 for students and seniors.
