Associating joy with a fitness-oriented challenge may sound anything but joyful if you’ve tried multiple weight-loss and diet techniques and have failed miserably. But the inspirational examples of real people who lost 100 or even 300 pounds in this unique book go way beyond the usual tips and tricks to get thin. Thirty stories all serve as a testament to author Joy Bauer’s ability to joyfully motivate you to achieve a healthier overall lifestyle — and maintain it.
Joy Bauer has been NBC’s Today Show expert for several years with her segments on diet and nutrition. Bauer is a registered dietician and certified nutritionist who has worked with the New York City Ballet. She expands on her TV show with this new book, featuring 30 of her “Joy Fit Superstars,” detailing their unique struggles, epic transformations and delectable recipes from their own kitchens. Based on patterns she noticed in her Superstars’ journeys toward weight loss, Bauer has come up with ten simple rules, the most important certainly being the first one: “Get Your Head in the Game.” Bauer emphasizes that lifestyle changes can really only be successful if you have the right mindset to begin the voyage.
Bauer also maintains that preparing meals in your own kitchen is the key component to controlling calories, portions and additives — this is not the case when eating out, especially at fast-food establishments. The book’s 75 mouth-watering recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks include turkey tostadas with homemade salsa, spinach and black bean enchiladas, easy turkey meat loaf and slow cooker pepper steak. The variety of truly astonishing success stories Bauer provides will surely motivate you to start your own path to health, as you read about these people’s struggles, epiphanies and life-long changes — all in the name of joy!
