The big surprise is that many of Carmine Giardini's prices meet or beat those in local supermarkets-and yet it's one of the state's top gourmet market chains. It sells top-quality meat, poultry, and seafood, plus the finest imported oils, vinegars, condiments, packaged goods, hundreds of pastries and breads and prepared gourmet foods. Fresh produce and flowers are among the finest found anywhere in the state. Tom Thornton, one of the creative directors of New York's famed Dean & DeLuca gourmet chain, has thankfully migrated to South Florida to revamp what was the staid Carmine Giardini's concept and now has them sprouting all over the state. Also located at Harbor Financial Center, 2401 PGA Blvd., Ste. 172, Palm Beach Gardens, 561-775-0105, and Promenade Shoppes, 6282 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, 954-491-1876.
