Nihiwatu
|
A small, exclusive island in eastern Indonesia, Sumba is a model for social and environmental responsibility. When Nihiwatu was designed, its creators were intent on starting a business that could be used as a tool for conserving bio-diversity and culture. As a result, along with featuring just seven luxury bungalows and three two-bedroom villas, the resort works to ease local poverty, hires 95 per cent of its staff from the island, creates income opportunities for all islanders and positions itself as a steward for the land and ocean. What this means is that guests can enjoy a classic Indonesian experience, complete with excellent diving and picturesque rice terraces, as well as the satisfaction of helping to make the world a better place.
