Ashtons Bed & Breakfast Hotel Review: From the warmth of its hosts to the stellar condition of its Greek Revival mansion on leafy Esplanade Avenue, Ashtons B&B is a popular spot near (but not in the middle of) the action. Guests here enjoy a slower pace --- sit on the front porch and rest a spell --- but they also appreciate easy proximity to the French Quarter (nine blocks/less than a mile) and the Marigny. The antebellum mansion boasts fifteen-foot ceilings, spacious rooms and details such as carved marble and antiques. The rooms are kept in pristine condition, with niceties including upscale bedding, floor-to-ceiling windows and whirlpool tubs. Each room is different, though all are serene and lovely. For relaxation, wander the garden, home to a majestic 300-year-old live oak. Snacks and water are always available, and breakfast is robust. This is an ideal spot if you like to bike, as Esplanade Avenue was recently outfitted with a bike lane and it’s a straight shot to the Quarter, Marigny and the river. There’s also a bus that runs right along the Avenue to the edge of the French Quarter for $1.25.
