Austin Motel Hotel Review: Travelers doing research on Austin accommodations should not let the name of this place fool them. Yes, this is a motel, but it has a fun, vibrant sense of style and is a far cry from typical, cheap chain digs. Guests have a choice of singles, doubles or suites located in a series of buildings that were constructed in the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s. Each room is entirely unique; the suites feature tile floors, lots of natural light and walls painted in rich, playful colors. Some of the rooms have murals, and most also come with extra-long beds or views over the pool area. The kidney-shaped pool is a blast from the past, and is surrounded by palm trees and well-tended landscaping. Throughout the property are lots of little treats, such as colorfully tiled stairs, peaceful alcoves and whimsical statuary. Best of all: you’re in the heart of Austin’s cultural scene. Outside your door is SoCo (South Congress), bustling with live music, one-of-a-kind merchants and eclectic eateries. In addition, downtown is just five minutes away.
