The Ballard Inn Hotel Review: This polished fifteen-room inn is ideally situated in the heart of Santa Barbara's wine country. Every room sports its own unique décor, from handmade quilts and Western rocking chairs to white wicker furniture and the floral patterns more typical of a traditional B&B. The Mountain Room with its stately king-size bronze-and-leather bed is the property’s largest. Wing back chairs and a private balcony overlooking Ballard complete the package. Your hosts are full of ideas for activities to fill your days, including nature walks, wine country cycling routes and horseback ranch riding. Although there are meritorious fine dining options in town, the inn's own restaurant presents an Asian-influenced wine country bistro menu that's exquisite and has featured such dishes as rack of lamb with star anise demi-glaze. A cooked-to-order hot breakfast, afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres, and evening turndown service that may include cookies and a bottle of local wine are included in the quoted rates, to which you should expect a ten percent service charge to be added.
