Berkeley City Club Hotel Review: It should come as no surprise that the Berkeley City Club has been designated a California State Historical Landmark. The Gothic- and Moorish-influenced property was designed by the famed Hearst Castle architect, Julia Morgan, who left no detail unturned. Vaulted beveled-wood ceilings and tropical nooks in the gardens are just a few of the fine touches that make this hotel museum-worthy. It also boasts a gorgeous, five-lane swimming pool enveloped in vibrant tiling. Almost all of the 28 rooms feature views of the Berkeley Hills. Compared with the extravagant nature of the hotel's public spaces, the rooms are refreshingly plain (warning: they do not have televisions). All guests receive complimentary continental breakfast and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access. Over the years, the property has become a popular spot for banquets, seminars and meetings.
