Canary Hotel Review: Echoing Santa Barbara's distinctive Spanish Colonial architectural style, Canary Hotel officially reopened its doors in downtown Santa Barbara in January of 2008. The five-story, 97-room boutique hotel is the city's tallest, with an outdoor rooftop pool terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands and Santa Ynez Mountains. Art and furnishings from the Canary Islands (off the Northern coast of Africa) greet you on arrival to the lobby and provide an exotic element. Guest rooms and suites are pretty and delicate, with embroidered linens and mosaic bath tiles from Spain. Amenities include large flat-screen TVs, DVD and CD players, high-speed Internet access, organic bath and body products made in the Channel Islands and all of the usual expected niceties. Among the hotel's distinctive features are Spanish- and Morrocan-influenced decorative arches, colorful tiles and wrought-iron embellishments. Public areas of the hotel have both traditional and contemporary art pieces from regional and national artists. The hotel also has full-service meeting rooms. On-site Finch & Fork serves small plates paired with boutique wines, beers and cocktails. The rooftop terrace is the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail with all of Santa Barbara in view.
