Castle on the Hudson Hotel Review: Sophisticated, customized touches can be found throughout this castle. Tapestries hang in the lobby, and ornate wall sconce lamps shine with a warm yellow glow. In both the guest rooms and the suites, generous swirls of fabric make interiors feel cozy and grand at the same time. If it weren't for the outdoor pool and tennis court, as well as the absence of castle-like drafts and damsels wandering the halls, you'd swear this was the real thing. The property has all the trappings of a genuine medieval castle, except for the amenities, of course. The 31 renovated and refurbished guest rooms are equipped with Tivoli radio and Bose sound systems and Wi-Fi. Select suites come with wood-burning fireplaces. Don't be surprised if the tower looks familiar --- it's a dead ringer for the fortress in the Mel Gibson movie "Braveheart." But contrary to appearances, the building and grounds have never served as a film backdrop. Perched high on a hill along the banks of the Hudson River, the hotel is home to the award-winning Equus restaurant, which serves an elegant weekend Champagne brunch.
