Chancellor Hotel Review: This boutique hotel was built in 1914 in Edwardian style and is located near the Powell Street cable car line. Set among giant palms, it feels like an icon leftover from grander days, although the property was renovated in 2007 to modernize the look of the guest rooms. High ceilings accentuate the spacious feel of the lobby, while large windows in the rooms offer fine views of the city. The 137 rooms and two suites have all the basics, from complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access to personal safes and hair dryers. Perks include a pillow menu, which offers guests their choice of twelve different pillow types. The tubs and showers are particularly generous in size. Suites are bathed in soft hues and feature wrought-iron beds. Luques Restaurant and Bar is a popular hangout, located adjacent to the lobby. The fabulous Union Square setting makes this a great place for shopaholics and sightseers.
