The Cloister at Sea Island Hotel Review: Host of the 2004 G8 summit, The Cloister is part of the refined Sea Island resort complex. In 2006, the property completed a three-year overhaul that culminated with the demolition of the original Addison Mizner-designed building and the construction of a new main building that features many refurbished elements from the original. Entirely reproduced in the new structure is the original Spanish Lounge with fully restored stained glass windows, antique cypress beams and marble mantle. The new design also captures the Mediterranean style of the old property, with stucco arches and courtyards. Resort hallmarks include consistently good service and beautiful seaside surroundings that range from rolling ocean waves to oaks, flora and fauna. Twenty suites reside in the anchor building, while two wings house 35 bedrooms each. An impressive 35,000 couples have been married here over the years, and many return for second honeymoons. For dining at the Georgian Room, the Cloister's elegant dining room, gentlemen are required to don coats and collared shirts. This dining venue offers more than 27,000 bottles of wine and a menu that changes nightly. A focus on family makes sure that parents and their kids feel right at home, with activities to keep children busy while mom and dad enjoy their stay. Although The Cloister doesn't operate a horseback riding facility, this activity may be arranged for riding on the beach. Packages focus on tennis, golf, dining, family and well being.
