The Culver Hotel Review: Built in 1924 and on file with the National Registry of Historic Places, this property has quite a Hollywood history. Stars like Greta Garbo and Clark Gable stayed here, as did the entire cast of Munchkins while shooting "The Wizard of Oz," as MGM Studios was nearby. At one time, John Wayne even owned the hotel, formerly known as The Hunt. Now, pictures of classic stars from Marilyn Monroe to Judy Garland accompany Hollywood memorabilia in each guest room. Ranging from frilly Victorian to sparse Japanese, each room style is unique; presumably for some consistency, all include antique French furniture. The lobby has spacious vaulted ceilings, lounge furniture and a baby grand piano. Nearby, a conference room fits forty people. The Culver Hotel's Grand Lobby Bar & Kitchen offers dining options from the morning (steak and eggs) to the afternoon and evening (Maine scallops). The hotel is within walking distance of Sony Studios and the numerous fine restaurants and art galleries that have given Culver City a much-needed makeover in recent years.
