DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Houston Downtown Review: This centrally located downtown hotel began its life as the French-built Meridian and to this day retains an elegant European touch in its style. Hardwood floors and rich woodwork greet travelers in the hotel lobby --- along with DoubleTree’s signature warm chocolate chip cookies. The property is connected to Allen Center and Heritage Plaza by a sky bridge, while tunnels take you elsewhere. Though nestled in the heart of Houston’s downtown business and financial district, the hotel also is within blocks of the Theater District, as well as the George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park for Houston Astros baseball and Toyota Center for Houston Rockets basketball and concerts. Complimentary shuttles ferry guests around downtown. Or you can stay in and enjoy American cuisine with Southern flavors at the hotel’s own Trofi Restaurant. The 350 guest rooms and suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering beautiful views of Houston’s skyline. Bright reds, deep blues and passionate violets dominate the curtains and bedspreads --- tempered, rest assured, by light wood furnishings. Standard rooms include one king or two double beds, a work desk, coffee maker, Web TV and more. Executive rooms also offer a spacious living area, and many of the more luxurious rooms overlook a fountain garden. The 18,000 square feet of flexible meeting space can accommodate up to 650 people.
