The Driskill Hotel Review

: Jesse Lincoln Driskill --- a cattle baron and Civil War colonel --- built this ornate landmark hotel in 1886. It was a favorite of President Lyndon Johnson, and it served as the headquarters for the White House Press Corps during his presidency. Since its opening, it has undergone many renovations and changed hands quite a few times, a process that culminated with a grand reopening at the turn of the millennium. The lobby’s grandeur, with stately columns towering to a stained glass dome, hints at the opulent accommodations awaiting guests. The historic guest rooms in the original hotel and traditional guest rooms in The Driskill Tower (built in 1929) are decorated in rich brown tones. All are furnished with plasma TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi and wired Internet, and bathrooms are done in either Brazilian marble or Art Deco black-and-white tiles. There are also twelve suites whose lavish styles range from period to contemporary. The Driskill Grill is revered as one of Austin’s finest restaurants, serving seasonal house specialties in a club-like setting. The Driskill Lounge is a vibrant place with live piano most nights that includes a schedule of live acoustic bands. Among the hotel's standard amenities are business and fitness centers, 24-hour concierge and massage rooms.
