Felt Manor Hotel Review: This French manor was originally dubbed Felt's Folly when it was built in 1848 for the then-whopping amount of $40,000. Its elegant atmosphere remains, and its double stairway leading from the yard down into the street is now registered as a National Landmark. The property sits on a hill overlooking the Galena Valley. Guests feel wonderfully isolated from the modern world as they sit on the porch sipping fresh lemonade against a backdrop of ivy-covered walls. The rooms are decorated to recall the manor's early days, and a feeling of history is fostered with formal wallpaper, antiques and antique reproductions. Gourmet breakfast starts each day, and at 4 p.m. the innkeeper serves a traditional afternoon tea, complete with tea sandwiches, pastries and appetizers.
