Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville Review: This imaginatively designed hotel feels like a classic Tudor-style hunting lodge, the sort George Vanderbilt, who envisioned and built nearby Biltmore Estate on 100,000 acres of pristine forest land, might have constructed had he not done a Chateau-style hunting lodge instead. Half-timbered, festooned with hunt-inspired art work, furnished with English-style appointments in the public spaces, and perfectly perched on a small nub of land that formerly held a filling station, Asheville’s Grand Bohemian enfolds you from the moment you drive through the arched entry. Stone and wood intermingle with captivating effect throughout the structure. Fireplaces blaze and dark woods gleam, while hunting trophies and paintings peer down from high-ceilinged spaces. The hotel is a veritable stage set, but it’s also a comfortable, totally services contemporary hotel. There’s a full-service spa and fitness center. Rooms feature LCD televisions fitted with technology that allows a guest to sign onto the Internet and check e-mail on a big screen. Luxurious beds with pillow-top mattresses and baths with oversized soak tubs erase trip fatigue in a flash. Sink bases are hand-carved wooden pieces customized for each bath. From its vantage point in the heart of Biltmore Village, a guest may easily explore art galleries and boutiques a few steps away from the hotel. Across the way, the Manor House part of the hotel houses 20 of the hotel's 74 rooms; these are slightly less expensive than the rooms in the main building but no less luxurious.
