The Inn at Craig Place Hotel Review: Innkeepers Gregg and Kelly Alba have taken a beautiful structure from 1891 (listed in the National Registry of Historic Places as part of the historic Monte Vista neighborhood) and transformed it into a serene private retreat that oozes romance. Five impeccably decorated rooms have names like Once Upon a Dream, Serenity and Happily Ever After; the latter offers a two-person whirlpool spa tub. Each room comes with a queen-size bed with down-filled blankets and pillows, year-round remote control fireplace, robes, slippers, bath scents, CD and DVD players, free Wi-Fi, ceiling fans and more. Foodies will flip over pastry chef Kelly's fresh-baked creations, Italian frittatas, stuffed sweet peppers, soufflés (including the signature Crème Brulee French Toast soufflé), fresh fruit and desserts served either en suite, on the curved balcony or in the candlelit dining room. There's also a 24/7 snack and beverage center with evening cookies and bedtime chocolates. Intimate weddings are held Monday through Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. for up to 25 guests, and a nice selection of romantic packages are available. Downtown is about four miles away. Corporate rates are available for single travelers. Freebies include parking and access to a nearby fitness center. One of the nation's largest public tennis courts is four blocks away. Children and pets are not allowed, and smoking is permitted outdoors only.
