Ka awa Loa Plantation Hotel Review: Arriving at Ka’awa Loa Plantation is a sort of Alice in Wonderland slide into paradise, as the winding, narrow road makes its way through towering trees and exotic, unearthly blossoms, plants and vines. It can be an intoxicating experience, so stay alert --- the inn’s sign on the left hand side of the road is easy to miss. Once you arrive, you may never want to leave this elegant plantation-style home and coffee farm. Located in the heart of the Kona Coffee Belt, the five-acre estate features large lawns offering open views to Kealakekua Bay some 1,200 feet below. Ka‘awa Loa consists of ocean-view rooms with queen beds and either a shared bath or private baths; a garden view room with two twin beds; a cottage with a queen bed, private bath and kitchen; and the luxurious Ka’awa Loa Suite with a king poster bed and large, private bath. Luxury amenities include an outdoor hot tub, a not-to-be-missed traditional Hawaiian cedar steam, outdoor shower gardens, an expansive wrap-around lanai, a great room with fireplace, a large gourmet kitchen and a gas grill. As for the surrounding tropical gardens, they aren’t just for show --- a number of sustainably and organically grown crops include avocado, mango, papaya, passion fruit, white pineapple, dragon fruit and Kona coffee. Save plenty of time for talking story with the inn’s hospitable and knowledgeable proprietors, as this will be one of the many highlights of your stay. Situated in one of the Big Island's most historic regions, the property makes a great base for pure relaxation after a day filled with the many activities the area is noted for: hiking nearby trailheads or snorkeling, diving, paddling and kayaking at Kealakekua Bay and “Two Step” in Honaunau Bay.
