Kauai Marriott Resort Hotel Review: This 356-room resort, just a couple of left turns from the Lihue Airport, is a laidback property with plenty of activities for all ages. With a $50 million renovation, it enhanced everything from guest rooms and suites to restaurants and even the pool deck. It has a great location in Lihue on the lovely quarter-mile-long beach fronting Kalapaki Bay with views of Nawiliwili Harbor, and it offers a convenient central location from which to enjoy everything the Garden Island has to offer. Rooms have been updated with chic and sophisticated décor using natural tones and dark wood. But the lovely swimming pool (actually, it's Kauai's largest), extensive grounds and interesting Asian and Pacific art stay true to the tropical surroundings. Among the many restaurants is Duke's Canoe Club, an open-air seafood and steak joint, and Cafe Portofino, serving Italian food on the beach promenade. Some great perks are locally grown coffee with in-room coffee makers and wireless Internet that even reaches poolside for surfing the web while you soak in the sun.
