The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort Hotel Review: With its spectacular ocean-front vista, the King and Prince, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, started out in 1935 as a private dance club for the small community of St. Simons’ habitués. Though it has an old-fashioned charm that keeps families coming back generation after generation, it does not lack contemporary comforts, whether it be Wi-Fi or The Royal Treatment Cottage spa. A sorely needed 2004 total renovation reduced the number of accommodations from 72 to 57 in the historic building so that rooms could be enlarged and more luxurious bathrooms installed. Some guest rooms, suites and villas open right on the ocean, and all are done in colors that reflect the sand-and-sea landscape of the barrier island the resort inhabits. Other accommodations are scattered among 46 villas and eight residences for a total of 195 accommodations. For recreation guests will find tennis courts and five pools, but the place to be is the resort beach or a few miles away at the King and Prince Golf Course, which winds through ancient forests and a vast salt marshland. Relaxing with a drink on the oceanfront terrace is a luxurious way to end a luxurious day. Pets are not permitted in the rooms, but the resort can recommend nearby boarding establishments.
