La Quinta Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort Hotel Review: Once a favorite destination for Marlene Dietrich and the birthplace of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” who penned the holiday tune on a balmy December day, La Quinta Resort & Club is brimming with Hollywood lore and history. Set on a 45-acre parkland in tony La Quinta, about 30 minutes from downtown Palm Springs, this sprawling property proudly flaunts Spanish influences, beaucoup amenities and a relaxed, Southern California elegance. The resort is tucked at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, and guests tend to come for its trio of specialties: five golf courses, 23 tennis courts and the full-service Spa La Quinta. Guest rooms are clustered around intimate swimming pools or courtyards, while freestanding casitas may have hammock-draped palms nearby. Guest rooms and suites boast a desert chic motif, with details straight out of a hacienda, including fireplaces and authentic artwork. Water features add to the sense of tranquility throughout the grounds. Seven restaurants serve everything from seafood to southwestern in formal adobe dining rooms and casual poolside settings. In many ways, this resort feels like a country club --- albeit one endowed with boutique hospitality.
