La Quinta Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort Hotel Review: The original desert hideaway, La Quinta Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort has been a haven to celebrities since it first opened in 1926. Marlene Dietrich favored it, and it's the birthplace of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.” Berlin penned the holiday tune here on a balmy December day. In 2014, a multi-million-dollar restoration revived the luster of this iconic property with a fresh, modern look in line with its storied history and serene desert surroundings. The resort is still known for its Spanish influences, beaucoup amenities and relaxed, Southern California elegance. It's tucked at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, and guests tend to come for its trio of specialties: five golf courses, 23 tennis courts and the full-service Spa La Quinta. Guest rooms are clustered around intimate swimming pools or courtyards, while some of the free-standing casitas have hammock-draped palms nearby. Dining options include Morgan's in the Desert (modern American), TWENTY6 (creative comfort food) and Adobe Grill (regional Mexican). Water features scattered throughout the 45 acres heighten the sense of tranquility.
